About Us

History of Church on the Mall

Church on the Mall was formed in 1966 when Holy Redeemer in Norristown, Ambler Chapel (a ministry of Holy Redeemer) and Conshohocken Presbyterian church merged to form one church at the Plymouth Meeting Mall. Our first pastor was Rev. Allan Kinloch.

Church on the Mall (COTM) is unique! Our location at Plymouth Meeting Mall in suburban Philadelphia makes us the oldest continuously operating worshiping congregation in a mall in the country of any denomination. These characteristics make COTM a truly remarkable place, providing us opportunities to minister to the needs of our congregation and surrounding environs. We provide a spiritual home to our members, offering Sunday worship and spiritual growth programs and participation in ecumenical services (Good Friday service, etc.) with the local Plymouth-Whitemarsh Ministerium.

Our presence in the Mall allows us to serve the community for counseling and outreach. Our church doors are open during regular Mall hours, giving Mall visitors and employees a place for prayer and meditation in our chapel. Our premises house a Christian counseling center (The Dialogue Center) for clergy and congregations in need; one of their staff serves as Parish Associate. Additional community events or activities are the monthly Red Cross blood drives, various self-help groups, and an election polling station.
